Creating the best customer experience
You can add layers of subfolders within your main display folder to structure your information. Add subfolder names (no extension needed) to your fileorder.lst file if you want to prescribe the order. Each subfolder can have more subfolders and its own fileorder file within it .
Tip: If wanted, you can create extra QR codes that go directly to individual subfolders or files within your display. Copy the relevant URL from InfoAktiv Mobile to generate a file or folder-specific QR code.
You can create QR codes with desktop software or by using one of a number of web sites. Beware that some online QR code generators provide QR codes that route you via their own site. This can cause problems if that site ceases to exist or decides to charge you for forwarding ‘your’ code to InfoAktiv Mobile in the future.
Uploading a new display folder with a name previously used will over-write the other display. Make sure your new display folder has a unique name unless it is a replacement for the older version.
PDFs provide the easiest way to display written information and images on InfoAktiv Mobile. You can also take advantage of interactive features like mailto (email) links and hyperlinks. It is easy to create PDF’s in Word or PowerPoint. For best results you might want to modify the page proportions to suit a mobile phone’s screen.
- Creating a PDF from PowerPoint
Open your PowerPoint document, click on ‘File’ > ‘Export’ > ‘Create PDF/XPS Document’ > and save as PDF. - Creating a PDF from Word
Open your Word document, click on ‘File’ > ‘Export’ > ‘Create PDF/XPS Document’ > and save as PDF. - Creating a Word document for phone screens
Open a new Word document, click on the ‘Layout’ tab > ‘Size’ > ‘More Paper Sizes…’ > then change the ‘Paper size’ to custom and make the Width 11cm and Height 30cm > ‘OK’. Change the Height to something larger than 30cm if you have more information to place. - Creating links between pages
Open your Word document and highlight a word, shape, or image you want to link to another page. Right click > ‘Hyperlink…’ > ‘Place in This Document’ > and choose a heading or page you want to link to > ‘OK’. - Creating links to websites
Open your Word document and highlight a word, shape, or image you want to link to a web page. Right click > ‘Hyperlink…’ > paste the web address of your chosen page into the ‘Address’ bar and then click ‘OK’. - Creating Mailto (email) links
Open your Word document and highlight a word, shape, or image you want to link to a web page. Right click > ‘Hyperlink…’ > in the ‘Address’ bar type ‘mailto:‘ and then the email address you want to use. For example: ‘mailto:joebloggs@email.com’.
Due to its compatibility with mobile phones and small file sizes, the best video file type to upload for your display is MP4. Any other video files you have must be converted to MP4.
If you don’t have video conversion software then you can convert your videos on websites such as Zamzar: Click here

You should optimise your video, audio and PDF’s file sizes depending upon how strong you expect your users’ network connection to be. There is a trade-off between file size and quality so you need to decide what the optimum size is to meet your requirements. This may involve some experimentation. Network speeds are highly variable, a good 4G network or WiFi LAN may download 1MB in a couple of seconds, older 3G networks are much slower. Most phones will start to play an audio or video track before the entire file has downloaded which improves the users’ experience.
MP3 is very efficient for audio files, but you can compress them further by either: saving as mono, lowering the sample rate, or lowering the Bit rate.
MP4 video files can be further compressed by either: reducing the frame size, lowering the Bit rate or reducing the frame rate (we reccomend that you try not to go below 15).
PDF files are very efficient for text, but images can increase their bulk significantly. Resize images to suit the smaller screens found on devices and remove graphics such as pictorial backgrounds if they are not necessary.
Don’t forget to make sure you TEST everything before displaying to the public
